Posted February 27, 2015 at 11:50 PM. I carry a Gen 4 30. Overall width is the same. The slide is thinner on the 30S, but the widest part is the frame and they are the same width for both. I went with the 30 because the extra weight in the slide makes the recoil more managable and followup shots quicker. The 30s is 4oz lighter.

On my Gen4, I've had two mag catches and springs replaced due to excessive wear of the catch and the notches in the mags. Mags would fall out upon firing the gun. I have been looking to add a Glock 45 to my stable of Glocks. I am having a very hard time deciding between the 30 and the 30S. I know the 30 is a sweet shooter in a small package, but it is fairly hefty. All that heft does absorb recoil though. The 30s is thinner in the slide and obviously a lighter gun. The penalty there is more recoil.This allowed those that liked the heft of the 30, but with smaller hands, to have the ability to get a better grip and trigger reach. The 30S is a 36 slide on the SF frame. It is lighter than the 30/30SF so you can carry it easier but you may feel more recoil due to the lighter slide.
